I know that a topic about poetry is a rather strange idea because we all speak different languages drunken , but we can try to share here some poems we like.

So... first poem. A French poem, by Victor Hugo, my favorite poem. lovely heart
I put it in French of course, to appreciate poetic words and rimes, but I put it in English too, like that, everybody will able to understand the meaning of this wonderful poem. The meaning is so powerful, so intense... Ok, look at it :

3 septembre 1874

Tomorrow, at dawn

Tomorrow, at dawn, at the hour when the countryside whitens,
I will set out. You see, I know that you wait for me.
I will go by the forest, I will go by the mountain.
I can no longer remain far from you.

I will walk with my eyes fixed on my thoughts,
Seeing nothing of outdoors, hearing no noise
Alone, unknown, my back curved, my hands crossed,
Sorrowed, and the day for me will be as the night.

I will not look at the gold of evening which falls,
Nor the distant sails going down towards Harfleur,
And when I arrive, I will place on your tomb
A bouquet of green holly and of flowering heather.

3rd September 1874

(there are many English translations, but this one seems good).

I have a Russian poem to post too, but I will do it later...

Up In The Stars
The stars in the sky are shining down upon me.
They exhilarate and make me feel so free.

Their magnificence is amazing,
Just staring at them is dazing.

As I waltz through them,
My bliss starts to brim.

My favorite place is visible to all,
Yet from my haven, most would fall.

Sometimes I just fly to the stars,
To get from the noise of the machines and cars.

Not a care in the world could bring me down,
Not a thing in the world could make me frown.

When I’m up among the stars,
I have no pains, I have no scars.

I was born to shine,
Every opportunity is yours, yet mine.

I’m up in the stars because I believe,
I don’t worry and I don’t grieve.

Like the stars in the sky,
One day I will die.

Until the day I’m carried away,
Up among the stars is where I will stay.

The power of the stars takes over me;
It sets me loose and sets me free.

Oh how love to be up in space,
Flying free and at my own pace.

I feel so alive,
Into the stars I dive.

I will shine like the stars and the sun,
No one will stop me ‘til I’m done.

My head is surrounded by cosmic splendor,
The stars are my inspirational lender.

I can’t explain why I love the place so,
It’s just simply a safe place for me to go.

Oh how I love to be up in the stars,
Away from the world and alone in the stars.

As long as there are stars up in the sky,
There will be a place for me to fly.

I Can See You

I can see you through the rain.
I can see your wounds,
I can see your pain.

I can see you through the wind.
With no one to love,
Without a friend.

I can see you in the sun.
Trying to hide,
Trying to run.

I can see you in the dark.
Trying to blend in,
Your appearance is stark.

I can see you throught the trees.
Looking straight at me,
Like you're the only one that sees.

I can see you.
The appearance that's true.
I only wonder if really you can see me too.

PostSubject: Re: Poetry   Mon 11 Dec - 14:03

And i'd like to post a wonderful poem by a Russian poet of the so-called Silver Age (the beginning of the 20th century) Marina Tsvetaeva. I love this poem! I should say that the translation is worse than the original, but still.

In English:

Just yesterday, you met my gaze,
Now you avoid it, grim and dark!
You used to stay till morning rays, -
Now, ravens have replaced the larks!

I’m just a fool, and you're so wise,
You’re living and I’ve long turned numb.
O women’s ageless, timeless cries:
“My dear one, what is it I’ve done?!”

All blood and tears are merely water,
She bathes in them, becoming pretty.
Love is a step-mom - not a mother:
She’s cruel, unjust and feels no pity

Ships take our loved ones and set sail.
A white road takes them and they’re gone.
Across the earth, their women wail:
“My dear one, what is it I’ve done?!”

Last night, beside me, you lay low,
Comparing me to China’s power!
Then suddenly you let me go, -
And life, - a kopek - hit the ground!

As if in court for an infant’s murder,
I stood there, feeling rather stunned.
Even from hell, to you I’ll murmur:
“My dear one, what is it I’ve done?!”

I asked the chair, I asked the bed:
“Why all this pain? Why do I bother?”
“He got his kiss - you’re doomed to death:
And now, he’s off to kiss another.”

You’ve taught to live in the fire’s heat,
Now, in the icy steppe - I’m shunned!
That’s what, my dear, you’ve done to me!
My dear one, what is it I’ve done?

I know it all - don’t contradict me!
I see again - no more your lover!
Where Love departs, there, rather quickly,
Old Death-the-Gardener takes over.

Why shake the tree? The apples fall
Once they have ripened in the sun.
- Forgive me all, forgive me all,
My dear one, - that I’ve ever done!

A couple of years ago i had a very tragical No flower love-story. So this poem actually expressed my feelings and I would remember it every than and now.

Hope, you enjoyed it.

Reflections

You’re all about joy,
But that’s not who you are.
There’s sadness in your heart,
Hidden deep inside.

I gave you my song,
My laughter, my life.
But you dim my radiance…
Your tears turn day to night.

Reflections of reflections,
My love reflects your joy.
But your pain is like a mirror,
There’s a light it will destroy.

Darkness leads to light…

Friend

And when…we met.
Did you know you would trust me?
You would, you could?

And time…another time.
Our paths will cross again.
Our paths will become mined.

And let me be…
The one you turn to.
In the end,
The one you trust.

And I will be your friend.

I didn't write these...but I really like them!

Voices of Tomorrow

I hear the voices of tomorrow;
I hear them calling out to me.
Telling me to turn around and not to flee,
And see all that I can see.

They are calling out to me…
A fervent voice upon the wind…
Telling me to look around and see,
This world all around me.

All the pain and beauty sinks in,
Tears of emotion run down my skin.
I fight to keep my feelings within.

The voices of tomorrow,
Are calling out to me…
I ignore them and flee.
I don’t want to see all I can see.

The voices of tomorrow…

Lark’s Song

Sing softly,
Oh sweet lark.
Sing sweetly,
Leave your mark.

Let the sweetness,
Flow over me.
Let the calm song
Set me free.

Sing your song,
Oh sweet, sweet lark.
Let the beauty leave its mark.

Let your troubles flow away,
Let the song be calm and soft.
Unleash your spirit,
And let it float aloft.

Nata
Eyes of shimmering green,
That glow with a brilliant sheen.

A sweet, yet haunting sound,
In her voice is to be found.

Hair of ebony curls,
Each from her face unfurls.

A shy, melancholy girl…
As perfect as a pearl.

Taken so soon…
Barely a butterfly free from her cocoon.

A sweet soprano she sings;
Her dreams gave her wings…

Her time was not meant to last.
At 6 days after nine she passed.

She had yet to take to the sky.
To break her cocoon and fly.

Nata…

Feeling of Darkness

Tears of pain roll down my skin,
Revealing the fragile one within.

Desolation fills my heart,
From the sorrows can’t I part?

Tears for her are shed…
Prayers to take me instead.

Like an icy dagger through my heart.
Like a shattering world thrown apart.

Searing regret fills my head…
Filling my soul with unspeakable dread…

Into millions of pieces my heart is shattered…
Torment leaves my shaking mind battered…

I lay alone in the dark.
My appearance far from stark.

I wait for the pain to fade.
I long to not be afraid.

I’m never set free…
Depression suffocates me...
