Vilnius was charmed by Drobiazko/Vanagas show “Ice mistery”January 1, Vilnius Town Hall Square has turned into an outside ice rink . In the holiday show “Ice Mystery” took place our best figure skating pair - Margarita Drobyazko and Povilas Vanagas, who performed a series of new and already seen numbers, that brought them glory in the international arenas.
The program was also attended by foreign ice acrobats and circus performers - Rory Flak, who works in the U.S. Aidas Reklis, Ukrainian Galina Efremenko and also the young Lithuanian pair Katherine Copely and Deividas Stagniūnas . In the finale of the event a group of young skaters performed under ABBA’s "Happy New Year" . Holiday on Ice is part of the national program «Vilnius - Cultural Capital of Europe 2009».
«We have dreamed for a long time to perform at a public ice arena in Lithuania . Finally, this dream came true - in the most beautiful square in Vilnius. Cathedral Square is also very beautiful, but the Town Hall Square has more intimate atmosphere, and the ice-skating rink perfectly fit into the landscape of the surrounding area of buildings », - said in an interview for DELFI Povilas Vanagas, who also noticed the high quality of the ice.
«The feeling when you skate at home is always different, we always feel very happy. We love to skate in open arenas, because there is always a special atmosphere. Our dream - to skate under the sky of Vilnius -was fulfilled and we are very happy », - said Margarita Drobyazko.
«I never thought that our performance could bring so many people. We weren’t even able to see the whole crowd. We are confident that everyone who watched the performances, will go on the ice », - said P. Vanagas.
The organizers believe that the ice festival near the Town Hall - is not just a show of figure skating stars, but also an opportunity for everyone who wants to skate outside and admire the amazing architecture of Vilnius Old Town. Town Hall Square, «the heart» of the old city, frequently visited by the residents and guests of Vilnius , is the perfect place for this ice project. Building an outside ice skating rink could become a wonderful New Year's tradition.
The length of the ice area near the Town Hall is 37 meters, the width - 20 meters. The rink is surrounded by protective aluminum sides with height of 1 meter. At the expense of the technical partner of the organizers, the German firm ISS Ice & Solar Systems GmbH, which is engaged in installing of ice fields for 25 years and built similar projects in Vienna, Berlin, Hamburg, Paris, Moscow and other cities.
The rink will be opened the entire January.
